15 August, 2008

Notice anything different? Yep, finally an update, with a new color scheme, and a few things tweaked here and there. The biggest change is the new gallery format.

I have a few minis in the works, two of which are mostly finished at this point. With any luck, they'll be in the gallery soon.

19 February, 2008

What's this? An update?

Don't get excited.

I'm just posting to let you know that I've changed webhosts, so some things may be a bit wonky. I didn't migrate the gallery from the previous site, but I'll be adding those pictures again in the near future. In the meantime, if you find anything to be broken, please let me know.

25 May, 2007

A few new figures have been added to the gallery. One of these was my entry for the ReaperCon painting contest.

The past few months were pretty quiet for me, as you might have guessed. Most of my time was spent in "I quit painting" mode, and instead played alot of World of Warcraft. My trip to Atlanta rekindled my interest in painting, so I got three figures done in the past month. Now that I'm back from Reaper, I can get to work on some projects that have been sitting idle for the past little while. Whether I finish them before I "quit" again remains to be seen.

ReaperCon was another really great experience for me. I caught up with some good friends, and made some new ones. This year was my first as a guest artist, so I spent a few days after the convention working in close quarters with a number of very talented artist. It was quite humbling to be considered an equal with all of them.

28 February, 2007

The Reaper auction for the ReaperCon Sophie that I painted started yesterday, and ends on March 6th. Click here to go to the auction page directly.

22 February, 2007

The release of the WoW expansion caused my painting production to grind to a screeching halt, so I didn't get anything done in the past month. GenghisCon fixed that, though. Not only did I get my main character in WoW to 70 during the Con, I got motivated to paint again, so I'm back to work on a couple of pieces--one for Reaper Miniatures, and another for Wyrd Games. After those are done, I'll start on my entries for my first Games Day.

GenghisCon was fairly successful for me. I got an honorable mention in the masterclass category (barely edged out by a figure by Jen Haley) and won the best Reaper miniature with Herryk Aesir. I also placed first in the speed painting competition, so I came home with a trophy. Thanks go to Derek Schubert for not making it to the Con. :-p

Reaper will be putting the Sophie I painted for them up for auction next week. When it goes live, I'll post a link here.

5 January, 2007

I suppose I should update this page. I figured that no one read this, but apparently I was wrong.

In any event, there was a lull over the summer while I played quite a bit more WoW, and then in the fall I decided I'd cut back on it quite a bit. I'm back to painting more regularly, and have added a handful of figures to the gallery. I just finished up my second piece for the Reaper showcase (which makes it the third figure I've sent to Anne, if you include the Sophie that I finished up at the end of November). Check out the Gallery here if you haven't been there in a while.

2007 is shaping up to be a busy year. I'll be teaching my at a convention for the first time in February at GenghisCon in Denver. After that, I'll be teaching a few classes at ReaperCon down in Texas. I'm even looking into making appearances at one or two of the GenCons later in the year. Also, in April I'll be entering my first ever Games Day (assuming I get anything finished in time).

14 May, 2006

After returning home from ReaperCon, I've been a bit busy with some painting projects. The first one to be completed was Rasia, the chick with the spiked chain. I added pictures to the gallery a few days ago, and it's now up for auction on eBay.

I have a few more in the works, including two contest entries and a commission piece. After these, I'll be working on a couple of pieces to be auctioned off for the Works of Heart project. Then it will probably be a few pieces for trades and the occasional auction. Further down the road, I'll be working on some pieces for Tacticon.

At this point, it's looking like I'll be going to GamesDay Atlanta for 2007. It will be my first Golden Demon contest, and at this point, I have no idea what I'm going to be entering or even how many categories. At the very least, there should be one Warhammer and one Lord of the Rings entry from me.

If you are in the Colorado Springs area, feel free to drop by Gamer's Haven on Thursday evenings, where I'll be painting with a few other people on a semi-permanent basis. Also, I'm looking at doing painting demos/clinics at that location on the third Saturday of every month, beginning with 20 May, 2006.

7 May, 2006

Wow.

I honestly didn't think I'd come away with as many of my entries placing as I did at ReaperCon. I had five entries, and came away with three first place and two second place trophies. The competition was extremely tough this year, and after seeing all of the entries before judging began, I thought I'd be very fortunate to come away with as many as three. I don't have the words to describe how this feels. And a few weeks ago, I was ready to quit painting again.

At the risk of sounding too much like an awards show, I'd like to thank Darin Hlavaz and Kevin Clark for their support and encouragement for the past few years. You two guys pushed me like no one else has. Also, I'd like to thank Liliana Troy for teaching me so much and for letting me watch her paint. Having a multiple Golden Demon winner so close by has really made me improve the quality of my painting. Finally, I'd like to thank Anne Foerster for the brutal critiques she has given me.

Since I didn't get Best of Show at ReaperCon this year, I'm not going to be forced into the Masterclass for next year. However, first place winners have the option of moving up. I will be taking this option. I have many reasons for doing so, but the biggest one driving me right now is that I don't want to entertain the notion of entering so many categories on such a short deadline again. Next year, I'm going to try to go to Games Day Atlanta, which will be about two months before ReaperCon. I don't think I want to string myself out on painting competition level figures for that long. I'd likely quit again.

Once I get back home, I can start work on some new projects. More updates to follow soon.

28 April, 2006

Only one week left until the start of ReaperCon. I have three of my entries pretty much done. The other two are coming along, and I hope to have them finished before I start the drive down to Texas. Pictures of my entries will be in the Gallery probably by the end of the weekend of the convention.

Once I get back, I'll have a few other projects to get started on, including a contribution or two for the Works of Heart campaign. I'm also hoping to get at least one auction of my own up during the month of May, but that will depend on how quickly I can get a few things finished.

7 April, 2006

Not much new to report here...just updating the news so that people don't think this site has died yet again. I'm currently spending all of my painting time working on my entries for ReaperCon. One of them is finished, and the others are in various stages of completion. Unfortunately, I can't share any images of them for another month.

16 March, 2006

My entry for the Wyrd Games Femme Fatale contest has been posted to the gallery. It is also up for auction for the next ten days. The eBay link is on the Auctions page, which you can click on above.

I've just about finished the first of my ReaperCon entries, and I'm fairly happy with how it has turned out. I still have quite a bit of work to do over the next six or seven weeks for my other entries, so it's unlikely much will be added to the gallery until early May.

In other news, I'll be hosting a mini-painting club thing at Compleat Games & Hobbies in Colorado Springs on Saturday the 18th from noon until four. Depending on how turnout goes, this might become a more permanent thing. Feel free to stop by if you are in the neighborhood.

14 March, 2006

I've made another small modification to the website. Now, only the last 5 news items are displayed by default. If you want to view the old news posts, you can click the link near the bottom of the page. I've also made it easier to make edits to the main page.

9 March, 2006

I've broken the gallery section into different galleries by year, so it's a little bit less unwieldy. The 2004 gallery is still rather large, since that's when I was at my most prolific. I'm not sure how much more I can break that one down. Possibly by manufacturer, but it would still be mostly Reaper stuff.

The voting for the Femme Fatale contest over at Wyrd Games is now active. I have one entry over there, but due to the nature of the contest, I'm not saying which. Voting concludes on the 15th of this month, so get on over there and check it all out. Once the voting is over, I'll be posting my entry here, and it will go up on Ebay on the 16th, and will be up for 10 days. If it sells, it sells. If not, I'd be glad to keep her. She did turn out pretty nice, I think.

In other news, I have less than two months to get my entries ready for the ReaperCon painting contest. I haven't even started painting them yet. The good part is that I have the minis picked out, and have started prepping them. However, as this will be my main focus for the next two months, new postings to the gallery will be very sparse during that time. There might be exceptions to that if I decide that a mini isn't up to the contest quality. If that happens, I'll post pictures and probably Ebay the offending figure.

5 March, 2006

Another mini has been posted in the gallery. This is a dwarf that I started at GenghisCon, and finally am calling done. I've also finished up an entry for the Wyrd Miniatures Femme Fatale contest. I'll have it in the gallery as well once the contest is over. It will probably see its way to ebay around that time as well.

23 February, 2006

Apparently I've been very remiss in updating this site. I blame World of Warcraft.

Attending the most recent GenghisCon in Denver has rekindled my painting interest. I placed third in the single fantasy miniature category with Kara Foehunter, and got second place (out of four contestants) in a speed painting contest. Hopefully next year I'll have more entries.

Since the last update, I only finished four figures, and didn't post any of them in the gallery. That has been rectified. I've also upgraded the gallery software, and had to muck around with my CSS files to get the whole website to look seamless again. If anything looks screwy, please don't hesitate to point it out to me.

With any luck, I'll have a couple more things posted to the gallery in the next few days. Here's the cue for the next update to not occur until December. :-p

26 May, 2005

I recently returned home from ReaperCon 2005 with two second place finishes in the painting contest there. One of them is in the gallery now. The other is in the hands of someone else, and I didn't get a good picture of it before I gave it away. It wasn't that great, trust me.

A few other pics have been posted in the past four months, including a few I entered into the contests at GenghisCon back in February. Maybe now that I'm actually painting at home again, maybe I'll update the site a bit more frequently. I have a few ideas for tutorials, so perhaps I should get to work on those.

5 January, 2005

Four new completed minis have been posted today, which were done on commission. They were based on the color scheme that Rackham used in the official images. Two of the Archers of Alahan haven't been posted on the Rackham site yet, so I had to wing it.

Next up, I'm working on a few pieces to enter into the painting contests at GenghisCon up in Denver next month. I'm hoping to get four done, but it may be slightly more or less depending on my schedule.

Lastly, the new issue (#14) of Harbinger is out, and Pilzenbihr is in the showcase section, along with alot of other great miniatures. Be sure to check them out.

14 December, 2004

Sorry about the lack of updates lately. As you might have guessed, I haven't been painting much of late. The root cause is the release of World of Warcraft. Since this game came out, I've hardly even touched my brushes.

I am, however, nearly finished with five miniatures. One is for an exchange on the Reaper forums, and the other four are for a commission. Once they are finished, pictures will be posted in the gallery.

8 November, 2004

The final results for the Harbinger #12 Showcase vote are in, and Bjorn was the winner! As you might expect, I'm quite honored by this. Thanks to everyone who voted for this guy. And believe it or not, I'm currently using this mini in an D&D game.

Also in are the results of the "Best of the Best" contest, and the winner for that one was a Reaper Guardian Angel conversion by Darin "Whizard" Hlavaz. Congratulations to Whiz on the win in a field of excellent entries. Darin has been very kind to me over the past year by offering very helpful critiques of my paintjobs. I'm sure I wouldn't be where I am now without his input.

1 November, 2004

Pilzenbihr managed to come in third place in the Golden Toadstool competition for October. It was by far my best placement, and I'm quite thrilled with the result. There were a number of stellar entries this past month. To view all of the entries, visit the Golden Toadstool Gallery.

The move to the new webhost was completed late last week, and seems to have gone off without a hitch, aside from the thumbnails in the gallery getting reset. The new host should be much faster, and more reliable, as it is no longer running over my ISP connection. While the server itself was always up, Adelphia seems to have periodic unexplained outages that last for hours at a time.

I'm currently working on a few miniatures simultaneously. One of these is for a comission, another is just for fun, and the third will likely be going up on ebay when it is finished. I've also mostly finished a Reaper halfling, but need to put some final touches on it before I post pictures of it.

27 October, 2004

I've added pictures of a Confrontation dwarf to the gallery. This is my entry for this month's Golden Toadstool contest. I've also submitted it for publication in Harbinger, so it might appear in issue 14 or 15.

Over the next few days, I'll be transferring the data on this site to a new host. Hopefully there won't be any disruption in service while this goes on, but we shall see.

14 October, 2004

It has been one year since I started painting again, and I thought I'd go back and revisit the first mini I painted last year. Here is the one I painted a year ago. And here is the one I just finished. Larger pictures of the new one can be seen in the gallery.

My improvement over the past year is partly due to practice, but mostly due to comments and advice I've received from painters around the world, and from seeing some fantastic stuff on the internet. This resource obviously was not available when I was painting in the early 1980s.

This one is now featured on Zaphod's Crappy Mini or Not page at The Miniature Painting Guild. Thanks, Glyn!

10 October, 2004

My entry in the Jenova Ego Contest took third place, out of a host of great entries. As you might expect, I'm rather overwhelmed by this. I've posted the mini I painted for this contest in the gallery. It is "Inge, Sorceress". I've painted this one before -- this one was the one in the green dress with the tattoo on her leg.

The other two minis that I mentioned in the previous update are now visible in the gallery as well. They are the Nymph and the Ice Queen.

You may have also noticed that I've added some php code to display a random image on this page. Currently there are only a half dozen or so pictures in the rotation, but I'll be moving some in and out periodically.

I've also modified the thumbnails in the mini gallery so that they show a smaller portion of the full-sized image. This way you'll get a better idea of what is in the full-sized image, as some of the thumbnails were really small.

6 October, 2004

Part two of the cork base tutorial has finally been posted in the Tips & Tricks section. Sorry it took so long.

There are a few more minis ready to be added to the gallery, but one is for a contest, and the other two are in the mail, so I don't think it would be appropriate to make them visible just yet. As soon as I can, I'll activate them.

1 October, 2004

Today I found out that one of my minis has been published in the Showcase of Harbinger Magazine, Issue #12. I think it's one of my best paintjobs to date, though I don't expect to win the competition, as all of the other entries are superb.

I'll be finishing up the last of the minis for the Reaper Mini-Exchange this weekend, then I can get back to painting minis for myself again. I'll probably be painting a few non-Reaper minis for a while. Look for some Spyglass and Confrontation minis to show up in the gallery soon.

28 August, 2004

I've added a new section to the site here called "Tips & Tricks" where I have written a few short articles on different aspects of painting and photographing miniatures. Currently there are only two, but I hope to add more in the future.

I've also added a few more images to the gallery over the past few weeks.

3 August, 2004

I'm currently working on a number of quicker paint jobs for a Mini-Exchange for the Reaper Forums. I also just finished up on my first commission. I've added five new minis to the gallery, with more to come.

Sometime in the not too distant future, I'm going to try to start painting up some troops for a Warlord force, in anticipation of the immenent release of the rulebook.

11 July, 2004

A couple more minis have been added to the gallery. I believe these represent my best work to date. I have a few minis I need to get painted for other people in the next few weeks, so it may be a little while before the next auction.

Stay tuned.

26 June, 2004

It's been a while since the last update. It's been a pretty busy month. In that time, I've managed to get five minis painted, and four of them have been posted in the gallery section. The other will be posted once the recipient gets it.

I've been auctioning off some of the Confrontation mail-order exclusives lately, but tomorrow there will be an auction for an actual painted mini. It is my latest Paladin of Alahan, which can be seen in the gallery.

21 May, 2004

Back from ReaperCon, and I learned quite a bit. It's nice to have instant feedback from a bunch of great painters. I have a few new pictures up on the galleries now. The latest one (Alaine) is the result of the things I learned in Texas last weekend. The three prior to that were done in the week leading up to ReaperCon.

I have a few projects that I need to get done over the next few weeks, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get any auctions up during that time. But when I do, the paintjobs should be better than the last few. :-)

11 May, 2004

Another auction up this week. That makes three weeks in a row! This week's auction is for a Spyglass mini, Inge the Sorceress. The auction will end around 8:45 PM MDT next Monday.

This weekend I'll be heading to Texas for the first ever ReaperCon. I'm looking forward to meeting alot of really great people (and painters) while I'm there. Maybe I'll manage to improve on my meager painting skills while I'm there.

26 April, 2004

A couple more new minis were uploaded to the gallery in the last week. One of them, the Paladin of Alahan, is now up for auction on ebay. The other is currently my highest rated mini on CMoN. Hooray for that.

My entry in the April Reaper online painting contest is scheduled to go up for auction next Monday evening, so check back for that one.

19 April, 2004

A couple of new minis were uploaded to the gallery last week, and one of them, the Lupine Rager, was voted 'Mini of the Week' on the Mini_Painting Yahoo Group. Thanks once again go to the members on the list for their support.

The other mini I finished was Telemnar Dawntreader, which was done for the Mini_Painting group's Painter's Challenge.

In other news, I finally got a new version of Axis ready for download. This new version includes some support for the Sphere 1.0 Release candidate.

9 April, 2004

I just finished up a mini that I was planning on putting up for auction, but I ended up entering it into the Reaper painting contest for April. Because the rules for that contest require that entrants try to maintain a level of anonymity, I can't post images of it elsewhere. Therefore, I won't be putting it up for auction until the contest is over. And since I don't have anything else even close to finished, I can't say when the next auction will be.

In other news, my entry in the Masterclass Miniature Painters yahoo group for March was selected as the winner of the "Fungal Growth" award. The mini I entered was "Sigurd, Viking Warrior", which can be seen in my gallery. Thanks go to the members of the group who selected my entry.

30 March, 2004

A new mini has been posted in the gallery. It is one of the Confrontation zombies.

I've been rather busy of late, so I haven't been able to do a whole lot of painting lately. I'm not sure if there will be an auction next week. We shall see, I suppose.

22 March, 2004

Anduriel is once again up for auction, with a revised entry. You can find it here. This auction will end on the 29th of March.

21 March, 2004

Three new minis have been posted in the Gallery. They are Anduriel Brightflame, the Templar Knight, and Kyla the Bounty Huntress. Anduriel was up for auction, but the eBay folks decided that my listing violated their rules. I'll be reposting this one on Monday evening.

14 March, 2004

I really don't have anything to sell right now, so there won't be an auction this week. Hopefully I'll be able to get some painting in this week for the next auction.

I finished the Black Orc Warrior on Friday, and posted a couple of images of it in the gallery. I'm still working on Kyla, but this particular mini won't be going up for auction. I'm still not sure what my next mini will be.

In other news, the Kelt Fianna I finished last week was voted 'Mini of the Week' on the Mini_Painting Yahoo Group. Thanks to everyone on the list for their support!

7 March, 2004

My latest Confrontation Fianna went up for auction a day early. This will run for seven days.

I've added a couple of images of this mini to the gallery section as well.

I currently have two minis in progress -- Reaper #2321, the Black Orc Warrior, and #14025, Kyla the Bounty Huntress.

5 March, 2004

I finally updated a few of the pages here. In fact, the only one that is currently empty is the "Development Projects" link. I've also added a page concerning miniature painting commissions.

I'm going to try to do more regular miniature auctions. While I'd like to do one every week, I don't think I'll be able to pump them out quite that often. Every other week might be a bit closer to reality. I'll have a Confrontation Fianna going up on Monday, March 8th. If you'd like me to send you an e-mail when I post a new auction, please contact me, and I'll add you to the list.

In other news, I'm starting to get back into the swing of things with Axis again.

That's it for now.
